1931 Franklin 5-Passenger Deluxe Sedan
Engine: 6 Cylinder. Air-cooled, 100 hp
This series 15 model was top-of-the-line for 1931
Factory Price: $2,695
Car sales declined dramatically in 1930 and the Franklin Company was in financial trouble. To bout up sagging sales, the 1931 cars were introduced early in November 1930 and included the new Series 15 DeLuxe model. With a longer and lower wheelbase, wider body, slanting windshield, and "clamshell" fenders, it was a sleek-looking car.
The Franklin Factory went into production with the high hopes that 1931 would be a better year, but with an inventory or unsold cars (including some 1929's) and an operating loss of over $4 million, it was not to be. To make matters worse, a stylish new Auburn sold for a $995 and Buick for about $40 more.
At year-end, Franklin Stock had plummeted to $1.25 and a black cloud hung over Syracuse.
