The Saint-Pierre de Jumièges abbey was founded by Saint Philibert, son of an honest count of Vasconia to 6541 on an area of the royal treasury in Jumièges in the department of Seine-Maritime. It applies the Rule of St. Benedict at the end of the seventh century after probably used the Rule of St. Columban.

It marks the apogee of Norman monasticism in the Seine valley holds the largest and earliest of the great Norman abbeys, is the only one that remained faithful to the many shrines of ancient Carolingian monasticism and one of the keys Norman Romanesque art where the connection between the Carolingian architecture and Romanesque architecture is the visible.
