The friar Francis of Assisi (1181/82 - 1226) is one of the greatest saints of the Catholic Church. He belonged to the medieval poverty movement. He is the founder of the Order of Friars Minor. His radical love for God and his creation made him an alter Christus (another Christ). When Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio was elected Pope on March 13, 2013, he took the name Francis. That he indicated as St. Francis to be desired t;a poor church for the poor.

 

Stigmata

(in Christian tradition) marks corresponding to those left on Jesus’ body by the Crucifixion, said to have been impressed by divine favor on the bodies of St. Francis of Assisi and others.
