2015-09-07 Blanzac, église Saint Saint-Arthémy, Charente, Poitou Charentes DSCN9817

This college, under the patronage of St. Arthémy, bishop and martyr of the Arverni in the fourth century, a fairly obscure origin. It was founded by the monks of Puypéroux who would have come settle there; in 1120, William of Nersac was abbot. In this church, the beginning of the twelfth century, remain the dome and steeple; the choir and the apse are from the end of the twelfth century; the northern and southern cross and the nave are the thirteenth century. The building has suffered the Hundred Years War, and more religious wars, especially in 1572. Repairs were begun in 1594, which lasted very long. The spire was hit by a hurricane in 1816, causing the collapse of the span and nave.
