1925 - FORT STOTSENBURG GATEPOSTS
Around 1903 these gateposts were installed by U.S. Army engineers at the main entrance to Fort Stotsenburg. The airplane hangars of Clark Field are seen in the background. The road was named Bong Highway in 1945 by base authorities in honor of a Major Bong of the U.S. Army Air Force who was a World War II ace pilot. After the war, Maj. Bong became a famous USAF test pilot wherein he met his untimely death.
