Back Yard - 4

•Solution

I built a new fence at the end of the yard that roughly matched the design of the deck, to have some continuity between them. The fence is actually three gates; one for my neighbor, and on my side the large panel splits in 2 and swings into the yard to enable access for moving large objects. I built a second gate on my side (extending from the garage) in the event that future residents decide to put up a new fence to divide the space.

•Sustainable / Green Elements

The new fence is built from the materials of the old fence. After powerwashing and staining to match the deck railings, it looks almost new.

•Lessons Learned

Working to make a space that works for two different stakeholders can be challenging, but the outcome left both of us very happy. The open area made the backyard a much more usable space. We have hosted block parties and even had a wedding reception.
