Luna - We Said Hello, Goodbye
Let me tell you the story of Luna...
I returned from a layoff of SL in December of 2022 looking to refresh things after being away. One of my favorite haunts had a number of people and when I saw Luna's profile, it instantly drew me in. Her avatar was lovely, not over-done or out there with wild looks. Realistic and well put together was the vibe I saw and we chatted about many things, including looks of avatars and she had a profound desire to make SL a more beautiful place, one avatar at a time.
She spent a short but amazingly productive time with me with my avatar shape and look. When I mean amazing, it was a look I was asking for in less than 30 minutes. Using a RL photo for facial reference and then proportional guides to ensure my body was not oddly out of whack, I had a new look overnight that continues to be my androgynous look with only a few modest changes.
We became good friends quickly, chatting and hanging out at music venues, meeting some of her circle, and her meeting some of mine. She has faced some amazing challenges in RL and used SL to overcome some and find the courage to go into RL, face down her demons and tackle them. Some folks in SL and RL have helped her and her story, amazing as it is, is hers and if she tells it, you'll be riveted as I was.
Her humor, and intelligence is off the charts, a musical devotee and one of the most genuine people you may have the luck to meet. Luna embraces this level-headed spirit that tried to talk me away from the people who will use you, abuse you and take advantage of you. She always warned me to be wary of people and these words she shared today ring so true, I wonder how many people I've meet can actually stand with or against this: "nothing is worth anything in SL except actual human compassion and you don't get that from many folks who've spent years putting together an image and community". It may seem a bit jaded, yet, it's so clearly true. Or as I like to say 'being popular in SL is like being the crayon eating champion in 3rd grade'.
The time we spent lasted a few months, with daily visits and "How you" coming from one to the other. Yet, Luna had to leave and face RL for a while, no timing on when she'd return and she left early in the summer. I've seen her 2 times since then for short visits filled with smiles and reconnecting. She said she wanted a pic so here is my lovely friend, testing the water, seeing how it feels, but not diving in just yet. Because we've said Hello and Goodbye more than a few times now, this song feels so right with these words for my beautiful friend Luna:

And we packed our bags and left feeling sad
