The fotograf was taken during an opening-performance to the exhibition "The Politics and Pleasures of Food". The artist is Naufus Ramírez-Figueroa from Guatemala. for one hour he bended bundels of bananas with plastic wrap to his torso and one leg. When the bundles gained weight around 50 and 30 kilogram, his liberty of action was strongly restricted. Under the self-weight the bananas startet to squeeze and lots of banana-pulp coming to well. the plastic wrap started to carve into the body of the artist. the performance was quite painful in progress. In the picture you see Naufus retreating from the performance. the piece was thaught as an allegory on states which are suffering by degradation from major corporations to banana-republics.
