Creepers - apophenia
I was far out in the undeveloped north Santee valley farting around. Dusk was coming on and I was all, better be getting home. So home I go on, and in a bit I get a flat in the wilderness valley. I kept messing with the tire for a good while, trying to get the irritating leak plugged. By then it was full dark. And I happened to glance up and see what the light of my bike was shining on that was right next to me.
I don't get scared easy. I catch wild snakes, grab tarantulas, fine with being out in the wilderness or in the city alone late at night. But that truly creeped me out, finding a freshly dismembered large animal body part, meat still pink, not an insect arrived yet, right next to me in the dark in the middle of nowhere.
I freaked and hopped on my bike and rode it regardless of the flat, and a bit later when the tire was totally destroyed looked up and saw stars dripping from the sky. I'd heard a pack of coyotes howling earlier, so figure it was either coyotes or a mountain lion. I subsequently saw a large stag at the end of Santee Lakes as I was walking my bike home. I asked for a sign today.
