Ship Island 2008

by ashley.slaton

My husband and I set out on an adventure for our one-year anniversary and discovered an excursion off the gulf coast in Mississippi. The excursion was absolutely stunning. It was a one hour trip to Ship Island (an Island which is the home of Fort Massachusettes). The island is 4 miles long is completely natural. The only man-made structure on this island is the pier from the ship to the beach with a small path to the side leading to a tour of Fort Massachusettes.

I was very proud of finding this little getaway spot. Dolphins did tricks in the air close to the loading dock and I had never experienced dolphin sighting. Of course I forgot my zoom lens and the dolphins were too quick anyway to capture a clear photograph. However, I did get some nice photos of the erosion and weathering created by hurrican Katrina as well as a few good photographs of the Fort (without giving the excitement all away for you history buffs).
