Robert

This Portrait is photo # 003/100 in my 100 strangers project. Find out more about the project at 100 Strangers

I noticed Robert while I was sat outside Café Rouge at Salford Quays enjoying a cold glass of Cider on a hot summers day.

Robert and his wife made an entrance into the enclosed seated area and he instantly stood out from the crowd. I thought he had a kind face, full of character and the hat was the icing on the cake as far as I was concerned, so, after a half hour or so, I introduced myself and asked to take his portrait, explaining about the 100 strangers project along the way.

Robert, originally from Kent and now living in Derbyshire with his wife Jean, is retired, he moved to Derbyshire while he was working for Rolls Royce aerospace division.

They were visiting the Quays to watch an afternoon performance of Carousel, where their daughter had designed the hats for the show.

This was the third shot I took of Robert. The first two were fine, but I thought he had a rather inquisitive, probing look, then, right out of the blue he opened up with this great warm smile.

Thanks Robert!
