Harp of Avacal Scroll
This scroll, based on the 11th C Welsh manuscript the Ricemarch Psalter was created for Thorvald Grimmson as an award for his musical contributions to the Kingdom of Avacal, an SCA group in Western Canada. Thorvald is shown as King David with a harp and forms the initial W at the start of the text. The hand is a variant of Insular miniscule based on the text pages of the Ricemarch Psalter. The scroll is executed on Arches hot press water colour paper, and painted with gouache (vermilion hue, gamboge, and azure, colours that were available to the illuminator of the historical exemplar). Design, painting and calligraphy by me, knotwork design by Rose Brook.
