Gouache painting after miniature of carolling in the garden of Sir Mirth from the Medieval Romance, Roman de la Rose. (Carolling originally indicated a circular dance before the term shifted to designate a holiday song). 7 3/8" by 9 1/4" (18.9 by 14.5 cm) painted on hot press watercolour paper. Pigments: titanium white, ivory black, vandyke brown, raw umber, yellow ochre, burnt siena, vermilion hue, rose madder, azure blue, ...and pearl gold. Worked with fine sable brushes (2, 0, 000 and a 10x0 brush).
