Synthetic Fluorescent Mineral: Zinc Sulfide - UVc

FOV: 1" wide.

From the basement lab comes this sample of zinc sulfide activated with manganese. Zinc carbonate was heated with an equal amount of sulfur using an alcohol burner. NaCl and KCl were added as fluxes. A very small amount of manganese chloride was added to provide the activator.

Contains:

ZnS:Mn2+ (FL+PHOS Greenish Yellow >UVabc!)

Shown under UVc light.

Key:

WL = White light (halogen + LED)

FL = Fluoresces

PHOS = Phosporescent

UVa = 368nm (LW), UVb = 311nm (MW), UVc = 254nm (SW)

'>' = "stimulated by:", '!' = "bright", '~' = "dim"
