Accidental Fluorescent Mineral: Activated Marble Rocks "Hearthstones" - UVc

FOV: 7" wide.

Marble rocks used to support the 'Limelites' series of experiments while they were being heated by the MAPP gas torch. Apparently lead and manganese ions from the Limelite rocks "implanted" themselves into the calcium carbonate in the marble rocks allowing them to fluoresce bright orange red. The implantation is fairly deep as the stones remained fluorescent even after washing.

Contains:

Calite (FL Red >UVc) Activators: Pb2+, Mn2+ replacing Ca2+

?? (FL Orange >UVabc)

?? (FL Blue >UVabc)

Shown under UVc light.

Key:

WL = White light

FL = Fluoresces

PHOS = Phosporescent

UVa = 368nm (LW), UVb = 311nm (MW), UVc = 254nm (SW)

'>' = "stimulated by:"
