Synthetic Fluorescent Minerals: Sphalerite with Zinc Chloride - UVa

 

Sphalerite (zinc sulfide) was produced by electroplating sulfide onto zinc metal. This produced flakes of zinc sulfide which was then combined with crystals of zinc chloride and quinine sulfate from tonic water. This was washed and dried yielding this 2" wide mass.

Zinc Chloride (FL Blue >UVa)
