Oregon Sunstones in Rhyolite - UVc
Oregon Sunstones in Rhyolite - UVc
FOV: 3" wide
From Harney County, Oregon, USA comes this 8" wide piece of rhyolite containing Oregon Sunstones, a plagioclastic feldspar with the calcium (anorthite) percentage in the range of 10 to 30% (aka oligoclase). Oregon sunstones contain small bits of metallic copper inclusions.
The red fluorescence under UVc is due to Fe3+ replacing Al3+ ions within the aluminum silicate framework.
Contains:
Oligoclase (FL Red >UVc)
Shown under UVc light.
Series best viewed in Light Box mode using Right and Left arrows to navigate.
Key:
WL = White light
FL = Fluoresces
PHOS = Phosporesces
UVa = 368nm (LW), UVb = 311nm (MW), UVc = 254nm (SW)
'>' = "stimulated by:"
