Oregon Sunstones - WL

Oregon Sunstones - WL

From Harney County, Oregon, USA comes this 3" wide collection of Oregon Sunstones, a plagioclastic feldspar with the calcium (anorthite) percentage in the range of 10 to 30% (aka oligoclase). Oregon sunstones contain small bits of metallic copper (see center left in picture). The discovery of sunstones in Oregon changed the value of sunstones. Prior to that discovery, they were considered somewhat rare. The find in Oregon changed that as they are somwhat common in the south Eastern part of Oregon.

The red fluorescence under UVc is due to Fe3+ replacing Al3+ ions within the aluminum silicate framework.

Contains:

Oligoclase (FL Red >UVc)
