Synthetic Fluorescent Mineral Art: Planet Plaster (BaO) - Blue LED

 

FOV: 3" wide.

 

15 mL of Plaster of Paris was hydrated with 7.5mL of a barium hydroxide solution. On top was added about 1mL of barium carbonate which had a very small amount of CuCl2 crystals ground into it. After the plaster had set it was heated until yellow orange incandescence using a MAPP gas torch.

BaS:Cu (FL Orange >UVabc)

 

Shown under blue LED light, filtered with magenta laser protection goggles.

 

Key:

WL = White light (halogen + LED)

FL = Fluoresces

PHOS = Phosphorescent

Blue = 450nm,

UVa = 368nm (LW), UVb = 311nm (MW), UVc = 254nm (SW)
