Polarized Slit
This "interesting" picture is for use with a computer's LCD display together with a diffraction grating to produce spectra of light when a retarder phase plate is used between the crossed polarization of the slit and the grating.
An analyzer polarizer is set so that the white line is at a minimum. The specimen is located between the display and the analyzer so the line shines through it and the analyzer which can be seen as various colors through the crossed polariztion. Adjust the orientation of the specimen to vary the line's color.
The grating then disperses the line into it's constituent colors.
Works best in Flickr using Light Box mode (press 'L'), magnified to full while in Full Screen mode on the computer (F11 in Windows).
