Rockyard Agate-opal (Blue Phos) - UVabc

From the local rockyard comes this 5" wide specimen of agate-opal (possibly cacholong) with a coating of caliche. This type of mineral is very interesting because of it's long lived blue phosphorescence after exposure to UVa.

 

Contains:

Agate-opal (FL Blue, Yellow/Green >UVa,bc) possible activator: (UO2)2+

Caliche (FL+PHOS Bluish green >UVabc) possible activator: (UO2)2+

 

Shown under UVabc light.

 

Key:

WL = White light (halogen + LED)

FL = Fluoresces

PHOS = Phosphorescent

Blue = 450nm,

UVa = 368nm (LW), UVb = 311nm (MW), UVc = 254nm (SW)
