English Smelter Willemite, Hydrozincite - UVb

From the Tindale Zinc Smelter in Tindale, Cumbria England comes this 4.5" wide specimen of slag.

Next to the specimen is a sample of synthetic hydrozinite made with zinc chloride, sodium carbonate, sodium hydroxide with lead nitrate as an activator. The small yellowish fl. crystals in the sample may be zinc sulfide (?). Expt.ID: HZ1.5

 

Contains:

Willemite, (FL Green >UVc) activator: Fe3+

Hydrozincite (FL Blue >UVabc) activator: Pb2+

ZnS? (FL Yellowish white >UVab) activator: Mn2+ ?
