Dyed Phosphorescence: Pyranine on Sugar - WL
FOV:2" wide.
Following recent experiments with candy I wondered if a fluorescent dye could change the phosphorescent color of sugar. On the left a hard candy was painted with a yellow Hi-Liter Marker containing the fluorescent dye, pyranine. On the right is a piece of cardboard also painted with the marker.
The pyranine on the cardboard showed no phosphorescence whereas the pyranine that had been painted on the sugar produced a yellow after-glow.
Contains:
Sugar (FL+PHOS Bluish white >UVabc)
Pyranine (FL Yellow green! >UVabc)
Shown under white light.
Key:
WL = White light (LED)
FL = Fluoresces
PHOS = Phosphorescent
Blue = 450nm,
UVa = 368nm (LW), UVb = 311nm (MW), UVc = 254nm (SW)
'>' = "stimulated by:", '!' = "bright", '~' = "dim"
