Top:

Strontium sulfide made by heating strontium carbonate with hardware store sulfur in molten salt. Plumbing solder filings were added before melting.

 

Bottom:

Calcium sulfide made by heating calcium carbonate with hardware store sulfur in molten salt. Plumbing solder filings were added before melting. Sample on left had extra Mn and Pb added.
