Luminescence Alchemy: "Green2lite" - UVc

FOV: 3" wide.

Strontium sulfide made by heating strontium carbonate with sulfur in molten salt. Gold? (~0.1% mol) and potassium (1% mol) were added as activators. Copper was also added along with the gold as the gold came from a 14 carat gold ring. The green color is consistent with copper.

Source:

Sr......SrCO3 (Alfa Aesar)

S.......Sulfur (Alfa Aesar)

Au + Cu ......filings from gold ring

K.......KCl (Alfa Aesar)

NaCl....Mixing salt (Hardware store)

Suspected phosphor:

SrS:Cu+,Au+ (FL+PHOS! Green >UVabc)

Shown under UVc light.

Key:

WL = White light (halogen + LED)

FL = Fluoresces

PHOS = Phosporescent

UVa = 368nm (LW), UVb = 311nm (MW), UVc = 254nm (SW)

'>' = "stimulated by:", '!' = "bright", '~' = "dim"
