Luminescence Alchemy: Calcium Sulfide "Bubbly Pup" - UVc

FOV: 2.75" wide.

Calcium sulfide made by heating rockshop calcite with hardware store sulfur in molten salt. Manganese and lead were added as activators.

I believe the bubbles in the salt were formed by carbon dioxide gas being produced by the calcination of the calcium carbonate. In the molten state the bubbles glowed a bright bluish white similar in color to the incandescence produced by heating calcium oxide into candoluminescence (aka "limelight").

Contains:

CaS:Mn2+,Pb2+ (FL+PHOS Orange,pink >UVabc!)

Shown under UVc light.

Key:

WL = White light (halogen + LED)

FL = Fluoresces

PHOS = Phosporescent

UVa = 368nm (LW), UVb = 311nm (MW), UVc = 254nm (SW)

'>' = "stimulated by:", '!' = "bright", '~' = "dim"
