Legends

Man, this past years Legends figures have been really amazing. I wasn't impressed at first, I mean, that IDW-ish Optimus and that Bumblebee weren't catching my attention and larger bots like Starscream and Megatron and Optimus in that scale....ehhhhh, but then these came along and well, using this scale for toys that were already pretty small just always worked for me. It sure did in that previous, even more simple Legends run but these, slightly bigger and more articulated little guys are great. Sure, they aren't as great as some 3rd Party figures but at this price point, I can't complain.

My first foray into these new pieces was Cosmos. I always loved little Cosmos and his UFO alt-mode so I just HAD to get this version so when I got him he just blew me away. After looking at a few reviews I just HAD to get Shrapnel (or Skrapnel as he's called now) and that was even better. Same scale toy as the G1 figure but way more awesome. After that it was Swerve and Tailgate, and while people don't seem to love Tailgate's toy here, I totally fell in love. It's so CUTE! And aside from some arm articulation issues, I think he's very poseable. Swerve doesn't have the best leg design (I would have liked ball and socket jointed knees for a faux-thigh swivel) but his arms are very articulated and that face...what a handsome smile!

Their partners are a mixed bag though with Reflector and Groundbusterer being some of the weaker robot and weapon modes. Payload and Flanker however look okay in their robot modes while maintaining a very basic transformation, but Flanker and Payload have a slightly more interesting gun mode...well, Flanker does though Payload has a nice gun barrel reveal with the legs sliding up but I can see why they will be dropping the targetmaster partner thing in later releases.

I really am looking forward to the Windcharger and Gears releases as well as the new Powerglide. Apparently Huffer will be repurposing the Optimus Prime figure...which might be more fitting though I would have liked a new try for Huffer from scratch. I expect Pipes, if they decide to try him, to do the same. Hopefully we see a new Brawn/Outback release and maybe a new Beachcomber and Wheelie to help round out the minibots in 2015.
