Neither Communicating, Responding, Nor Relating
In the book Naked City, Weegee wrote "To me a photograph is a page from life, and that being the case, it must be real." But Weegee was a photojournalist.
According to Judith Fryer Davidov, in the book, Women's camera work: self/body/other in American visual culture, Edward Weston is supposed to have said, " There is so much talk of the artist getting down to the realities of life. But who is to say which are the realities? Obviously, they cannot be the same to everyone."
For me, what is going on internally, when I encounter an object or a view, that I am capturing on film, or in pixels with a digital camera, that is the reality.
This shot is a straight capture of a reflection on a dirty window, on which someone had sprayed their message. No textures. No layers.
