Mallorca was a refuge for the artist during the First World War, which forced Anglada into exile and away from Paris and the international scene. From then on, he lived on the island almost continuously until his last days, with the exception of the Civil War, which he spent in Barcelona and Montserrat, and his exile in France.

In 1988, Obra Social ‘la Caixa’ acquired a large part of his work produced on the island and created a permanent space at CaixaForum Palma, in the former Gran Hotel, where thematic exhibitions on different aspects of the artist's production are presented.
