Alfred Sisley seems still to be underestimated.
In the Blue of the sky
Alfred Sisley (* 30.10.1839 - t29.1.1899) spent his retirement as a poor painter in the city of Moret-on-the-Loing tributary. The son of a wealthy English businessman, born in France, became impoverished due to the consequences of the Franco-Prussian War in 1870/71. Sporadic sales of pictures at least secured him the purchase of painting utensils and paints. At the same time, he created landscapes that reveal nothing of his precarious situation.
The river plays the main role in today's picture. The Loing flows wide and lazily and reflects the sky and the tree-lined panorama of the banks opposite. The fresh spring leaves are still tender and dance silvery in the air. No one is to be seen, and the Church of Notre-Dame watches over everything, of which Sisley alone painted 14 pictures.
Whether architectural piece or landscape impression - Sisley's artistic interest was focused on the moment of calm. Only the wind, leaves and clouds keep the wind moving, the rest of the scenery seems meditative. In contrast to the younger generation of post-impressionist painters, Sisley saw no reason to think of moving away from the impressionist style.

In der Stadt Moret am Seinezufluss Loing verbrachte Alfred Sisley (*30.10.1839 - t 29.1.1899) seinen Lebensabend als mittelloser Maler. Der in Frankreich geborene Sohn eines vermögenden englischen Kaufmanns verarmte durch die Folgen des °Deutsch-Französischen Krieges 1870/71. Sporadische Bildverkäufe sicherten ihm zumindest den Erwerb von Malutensilien und Farben. Gleichzeitig schuf er Landschaftsbilder, die nichts von seiner prekären Situation ahnen lassen.
Der Fluss übernimmt im heutigen Bild die Hauptrolle. Breit und träge fließt der Loing dahin und spiegelt den Himmel und das gegenüberliegende baumbestandene Uferpanorama. Noch sind die frischen Frühlingsblätter zart und tanzen silbrig glänzend im Lufthauch. Kein Mensch ist zu sehen, und über allem wacht die Kirche Notre-Dame, von welcher Sisley allein 14 Bilder malte.
Ob Architekturstück oder Landschaftsimpression - das künstlerische Interesse Sisleys galt dem Moment der Ruhe. Nur Wasser, Blätter und Wolken hält der Wind in Bewegung, die restliche Szenerie scheint meditativ entrückt zu sein. Im Gegensatz zur jüngeren Malergeneration der Postimpressio-nisten sah Sisley keine Veranlassung, vom impressionisti-schen Stil abzurücken. mcz
