mosaic Duke Adalrich & his daughter Sainte Odile
mosaic Adalricus dux Alsatiae & Sainte Odile
West wall above the entrance, chapel of tears (chapelle des larmes), Mont Sainte-Odile, Alsace
The building is of Romanesque origin and dates from the second half of the 12th century.
The mosaics are from 20th century and date from about 1935-36. They were designed by François Danis, the son of the architect Robert Danis, who restored the ruined chapel some time before. The mosaics were executed by Alphonse Gentil et Eugène Bourdet. These mosaics aimed at the style and splendor of those of Ravenna, and in fact they do so.
