It is a shame that some museums have directors who operate against their duties. In lieu of spreading free of charge good photos in high resolution of all the artworks (out of copyright), which have been entrusted to them by the community to make them available to the public, they contrarily hide them like dragons in their cave. They prevent with all means the free circulation of reasonable digital photos in good quality, thereby provoking that the entrusted artworks fade away from the public awareness.
Happily and in contrast to those bad examples there are a lot of famous and world-renowned Institutions like the Metmuseum, The National Gallery of Art Washington, the National Gallery London, the Prado Madrid and many others, who offer high resolution, high quality photos of their artworks (out of copyright) free of charge via Internet to the interested public.
