King Neptunes Yellow Sea Horse Carousel Ride from Happy Hallow

Yellow Sea Horse Carousel Ride

This Sea Horse carousel horse came from King Neptune's Carousel Ride at Happy Hollow in San Jose, California. This Carousel ride originally measured 32 Feet in diameter and was built by Arrow Development Co. of Mt View in 1948. It was purchased, used, by HHC in early 1960's with horses and chariots and was re themed with 5 different fiberglass aquatic animals and called "Happy Go Round" in a Giant Fish Bowl. The Sea Creatures were designed, sculpted and made by Mark Connelly, Happy Hollow puppeteer and Rolic Co. employee using scupted clay forms. There were 5 different types of animals on the ride. A Sea Horse, Pelican, Fish, Turtle, and Snail. The original molds for each of these creatures were distroyed soon after they were created. In 1992, the carousel animals were repainted which still stands today. In 1998, the mechanical parts were renovated and creature saddles replaced. The horizontal crank shafts were made by Barrango.

Since the molds were distroyed, there are only 23 creatures known to exist. The ride held 20 creatures and 2 benches.

Thousands of little children rode this carousel for over 60 years during it's long journey.

This carousel was dismantled from Happy Hollow July 8, 2008.
