Cathedral of Hope II
(Norwegian: Håpets Katedral) It is a floating sacred room with a shimmering ceiling/roof made of plastic from fish boxes collected on the beaches of Sweden's west coast.
Built as a stave church in Fredrikstad, Norway (2017-2022), created by artist Solveig Egeland with support from the Church of Norway and other actors. In 2025, it is making a pilgrimage to highlight important questions about the future of our planet. The aim is to show that together we can contribute to a more sustainable and just world in line with some of the UN's global goals:
- Ensure sustainable consumption and production
- Take urgent action to combat climate change
When the cathedral is in port (just now in Gotenburg harbour), visitors are invited to church services, concerts, lectures, exhibitions etc. arranged by the Church of Sweden.
