First Volvo Bus
As the economy strengthens in the 1920s, an increasing number of Swedes develop a desire to travel. Trains and buses become the preferred mode of transportation until the passenger car gets its definitive breakthrough.
Volvo introduces its first bus in 1928. It is based on the second series of trucks. The body is crafted by Arvika Vagnsfabrik. The bus carries 15 seats and this particular one is put into service in the Värmland province.
The engine is the same as in the passenger car ÖV4 and the first trucks, where it faces criticism for its modest 28 horsepower. However, this criticism is less significant for buses, given that the highest approved speed is a mere 20 km/h. The bus is a part of an exhibition at the "World of Volvo".
One part of the building "World of Volvo" is a museum - the Volvo history of cars, trucks and buses since the very first Volvo left the factory in Gothenburg in 1927. Another part is a big exhibition about the present and the future, with funny activities in connection with Volvo, to do for the whole family. There is also a restaurant and a café. The building opened to the public in 2024.
