Skara Cathedral IV
The cathedral was built in Gothic style in the 13th century. The photo shows one of 37 stained glass windows by Bo Beskow (1906-1989) which are the most prominent contribution of our time to the cathedral. The motifs are mostly biblical, but the two Swedish saints Bridget of Sweden and Helena of Skövde are also depicted. The windows were created 1945-76. From 1953, the artist produced the glass himself to achieve the desired light and radiance. The National Heritage Board (Swedish: Riksantikvarieämbetet) once called Beskow's windows "The greatest and most remarkable glass project in our country's churches since the Middle Ages".
