World Heritage: Classical Weimar VI
Goethe's Garden House is one of the 12 buildings/ensembles that the World Heritage consists of. In the late 18th century and early 19th century the town of Weimar witnessed a remarkable cultural flowering, attracting many writers and scholars. The German writer Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749-1832) was one of them. He settled in Weimar in 1775. He became friends with German poet Friedrich von Schiller (1759-1805). This relationship and these discussions led to a period now referred to as Weimar Classicism.
