Life Below Water III

An installation in Nolhaga Park - one of seven during the event Lights in Alingsås 2016 - the theme of the year is Enlightenment. It is based on the 17 Global Goals for Sustainable Development agreed to by 193 world leaders. This installation is inspired by the goal "14 Life below water".

Workshop head: Tad Trylski, Great Britain: "For over a century our world has manufactured plastic in vast quantities. This revolutionary material has changed our lives but also polluted our rivers, lakes and seas. It does not degrade. The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is one of five giant, spinning vortices of rubbish littering our oceans; in area, 30 times the size of Sweden. We invite you to join us here, from our 'privileged viewpoint' for the story of plastic in our waters, the story of the Kraken - from recklessness to recycling."

Every year in september/october leading international lighting designers come to Alingsås to hold a week´s workshop with participants from all over the world. Together they light a number of buildings and locations around the town centre. Around 80 000 people come every year to see the designs during the month-long event.
