Berlin, 1.2020
On the 15th of January 1980, the mancunian band Joy Division had their unique gig in Berlin at Kant Kino. One of the oldest cinema still existing in Berlin.
"Maybe fifty people turned up at this gig. The poster was shit. I think Conny got someone in the office to try and draw the Unknown Pleasures cover, and they put about ten photocopies of this outside the Kant Kino, so obviously no one's going to come to this gig. I saw this poster and I thought, 'They're going to kill me.' I knew Peter Saville had taken such care over the artwork, and look at this shitty poster! Anyway, someone at the front is going 'Turn the vocals up!' And Bernard, with real venom, goes, 'Speak fucking english, you german bastard!' And that was it really, the gig was over." (Mark Reeder, in charge for the Factory Records in Germany)
