More than 250 hunts across the UK meet for the traditional Boxing Day hunt.

Fox hunting is a ‘traditional sport’ in which hunters, usually on horseback, follow a pack of hunting dogs aiming to pick up the scent of a fox, chase it – and kill it. Fox hunting is illegal in England, Scotland and Wales, but evidence suggests that some hunts are regularly breaking the law, and not just exercising their horse's and hounds.

Fox hunting with hounds, as a formalised activity, originated in England in the sixteenth century, in a form very similar to that practised until February 2005, when a law banning the activity in England, Scotland and Wales came into force.
