25 270 Waldersea
On 5th November 1979 the 13.30 Whitemoor - Wisbech Goods pauses at Waldersea for the driver to operate the crossing gates. 25270 is powering the train and it was not unusual for a 25 to appear on it at this time.
According to my notes that week it was 25270 as seen here on the Monday, 25152 on Tuesday, Wednesday unrecorded, Thursday 08094 and Friday 08889. From early December 1979 larger engines began to appear in connection with the new Spillers petfood contract and after this date the branch train was normally a Class 47 or 40 with the occasional 37 or 31. The line closed in 2000 and despite numerous feasability studies costing many millions of pounds to see if reopening for passengers is viable, the current economic downturn would seem to have put paid to any ventures in that direction for at least a few more years.
