Fire Engine crash backs up traffic on I-80 after blowout

The driver of a fire engine ran off the side of Interstate 80 along the Yolo Causeway in California when his rig suffered a tire blowout.

The accident occurred about 8:30 a.m., 11/18/2013. California Highway Patrol officer said that a tire apparently failed, sending the vehicle about 200 feet off the roadway where the causeway is not elevated by a bridge.

The fire engine was from the California Medical Facility in Vacaville and was not on a call, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The rig went off the freeway, down an embankment and ended up in a drainage canal. The driver suffered a minor injury.
