Whats the value in a tree?

I have read so many childrens books now that the all seem to blur into one another, however there are a few that occasionally stick in my head - one such book, which i cannot remember the title, nor find it in the overflowing shelves of books we have, is a story about a tree cutter.

The tree cutter comes to a tree one day only to find its a home for an animal, so he says 'i'll not cut this tree down, i'll find another'. So he goes out again the next day and finds another tree only to see that the tree has apples, so he says the same thing as the day before.

This goes on for several pages until the last page where the tree cutter is tired and he uses the tree for shade/shelter .. the moral of the story is pretty evident by this stage, the tree(s) have so many more uses as a tree than as a log that has been cut down...

Never a truer point in my opinion and very applicable to Tassie at the moment (and probably alot of other places) where with some positive direction we can use trees for many more uses by leaving them there then the single use for the short term gain, tassies tourism is based on its world heritage forests and reputation as a pristine natural environment..

Here is a picture of tree which caused me to think of this childs book, like alot of tree's it is already being used or serving a purpose for many already..like the eagle nest.

"Forests are our friends, they're the lungs of humanity, we shouldn't be cutting down trees, we should be managing them."
