Stranded Sperm whale
Sad news from Andenes.
Yesterday I received a tip that a giant Sperm whale had stranded on some rocks right outside "our" beach.
During the night the heavy weather and waves had moved it directly onto the mentioned beach.
Camilla Ilmoni from Visit Andøy informed me that they had measured him to approx.15 meters.
The reason we know it`s a bull is first of all that his genitals are visible for all to see.
Secondly, only bulls travel to the northern oceans. The cow spends her entire life in groups with the calves on southern seas.
It´s not known what the cause of death is just yet.
He will also probably be identified at some point since the tails are used to identify each visiting Sperm whale in our area.
