A beautifully crafted, unusually large console table made in precious, heavy red narra wood in rich, lustrous patina, with strong stylistic affinities with Rococo Revival furniture popular in Europe in the second and third quarter of the 19th century. The serpentine front concaves at the sides, bulges in the middle, and rounds at the corners. Flowers, foliage, C-scrolls and elongated shell motifs delightfully carved adorn the frieze drawers and cabriole legs. The French-style shell hoof feet are strikingly beautiful and well executed. Interestingly, by design, there are no X-stretchers connecting the legs, thus presenting an uncluttered demeanor. Only an wealthy family with a stately house to keep it in could possibly own such a magnificent piece. Reputedly from a house in San Isidro, Nueva Ecija owned by relatives of nationalist Maximo Viola.
