Taking a last look

Although I didn't actually take this picture, I was standing beside the man who did, my father, using his trusty Yashica D TLR. Although he was more used to pointing the camera at glamour models, here we are at Waterloo in January 1967, with Merchant Navy Pacific 35003 'Royal Mail', waiting to leave with a Sunday departure to Bournemouth. Although 35003 survived to the end of SR steam, she was soon despatched to Cashmore's Newport yard and broken up before the year's end.

This would have been my last look at SR steam, our summer holiday to Bournemouth coming in the August, so too late to witness the finale.
