Next in line?
Awaiting demolition at Central Wagon, Ince on 20 June 1962 is Stanier 3P 2.6.2T 40143, late of Widnes. The scrapman has already had a nibble at the driving wheels, although the smokebox numberplate (and worksplate) is still in position. Although many locomotives were running on BR with all plates removed, it is always surprising to see them still in place during scrapping (GWR 0.6.0PT 5793 was also here, with cabside plates still attached). Was there ever any official BR policy about this?
