Flat fence Friday!

Sorry, the flow of photos has conspired to result in some flat plains and fences today but I promise, we will soon be in Winton and things will change. This photo serves to illustrate lessons we have learnt over the last century about the need for Biosecurity on farms and grazing properties. The sign on the gate outlines the necessary requirements for entering the property and limiting biosecurity risks.

This is not just an Australian problem but nevertheless, one that is felt keenly here because of the importance of agriculture and livestock to our economy and disasters from mistakes such as the introduction of Cane Toads, the early problems with prickly pear to more recent issues with invasive weeds, devastating diseases such as Panama disease in bananas, the tragic introduction of the Red Fire Ant and now recent issues such as the spread of Avian Flu and Varroa Mite in bees. The list of threats goes on and on.

So remember, when travelling overseas, don't bring prohibited plants and food into Australia, be hyper-vigilant for pests and if travelling to the country, do comply with bio-security rules, even those that are specific to states and areas of states.

Here is the latest biosecurity threat just in the news today!

Despite all that depressing news, have a Happy Fence Friday.
