Good grief - unfancy dress!!

In the last couple of years that we have had our Galah friends dropping by, we have seen and experienced some miraculous and amazing things. But this morning took the cake. Firstly, there was a massive disturbance in the force with the kids (the birds) all getting a good frightening by some scary birds with different calls to usual and indeed a flock of Crows in a nearby Gum Tree that were clearly unhappy about something and acting like a mass of irritating Noisy Miners.

And then, well, wonder of all wonders we had this Galah turn up looking like nothing we have ever seen before. We could see no evidence of anything physiological like having mated with a Black Cockatoo or one of the pesky pigeons that hang around - it just looked like it had been rolling around in a BBQ pit full of burnt wood wood. But that didn't really seem plausible at all either. It returned again this afternoon during a feeding frenzy - the frighteners this morning meant no-one had much to eat at all and they were extra hungry. No change in its appearance either, no bath or swim to have a clean in the meantime. You can also see that its beak is also discoloured. A normally coloured Galah is just behind it.

So it remains a total mystery. It showed no signs of illness or injury. If anyone has any idea what has caused this, we would be glad to hear your thoughts.
