Sam
This is a sad shot, taken a few days ago of a young lady called Sam who has been coming to us for a little while. She is just losing the last of her young grey feathers which all turn to pink as they grow out of their juvenile stage.
She has not been 100% and in recent times has spent a lot of time just sitting quietly. At the same time, she has been active enough to head off during the day with her friends. Sadly today, she was obviously not so well and would let me stroke her back and neck feathers and did not react aggressively when we decided it was time to get help.
So I took her to the bird vet and as a wild bird, if they are able to be rehabilitated, they are treated and given to carers to return to the area from which they came. So in the end I don't know what the outcome has been for poor little Sam. They are good vets who we have dealt with since 1985 but I do fear for her.
As you know, pets all get to that stage of being ill at some time but when you are dealing with many wild birds like we do, you are bound by certain laws and it's not even easy to bring them home yourself. She is a really beautiful young bird, I can only hope they were able to help her.
